Hello! I’d like to welcome Kat of StudioKat Designs, the newest sponsor at SewHappyGeek. She sells handbag patterns which are adorable, and sewing supplies too – those nifty bits and pieces you need to make a really profesh-looking handbag. She sent me 2 patterns to review, the Reuse-a-Bag, and the Boho Baguette:
Isn’t it adorable? I also like the sophisticated look of the Bellagio Bag:
She has TONS of great patterns available. And although I haven’t made the Boho Baguette, I have made the ReUse-a-Bag and have read both sets of instructions through. This is where Kat’s patterns really distinguish themselves, above any of the big pattern companies – the instructions are really thorough. They’re so good, and written in such a casual, easy to understand style, that it’s more like taking a class than reading a pattern. And I’m not just saying that because she’s a sponsor. And they’re a great price – $10 to $12 each. Plus she’s got some adorable free patterns too!
It’s taken me weeks to get to a point where I could make this Studio Kat Designs ReUse-a-Bag pattern, but I finally did it! I’m super proud of it:
I didn’t put in a zipper because I wouldn’t use it, so I just folded the edges over twice and made a hem. If I had it to do over, I’d do the ‘lock-in’ seam option before basting the interior and exterior together, so that it would match the side seams as well. I didn’t have Peltex so I jerry-rigged the straps, but I’m very happy with them. And the instructions were so easy to follow!
Here it is unfolded – I made the medium size and plan to leave it in the car. That way, when I pop in to the local shop I can just use this instead of their plastic bags.
It’s got a wee pocket inside for receipts and lists. Please excuse my awful stitching. I forgot to change the bobbin to orange thread :p.
All in all, what I can tell you is this: using one of Kat’s patterns is a delight, and I like buying from an real person, and an independent designer.
P.S. Because I write a non-Blogger blog, I am one of those unfortunates who will lose my Google Friend Connect widget soon. I really value you as a reader and follower, and I’d like to ask you to consider following me on BlogLovin’, a free service built specifically for people to follow their favourite blogs, or by Feedburner, which is an RSS feed. Thanks!!
