Manic Monday Linky Party & Features (& Giveaway Reminder!)

Hey, if you haven’t signed up for the Abakhan fabric giveaway, get over there now!

Hello!!! Sorry for the late posting today – I got my Mirena coil out and yikes! Cramps and everything. And because I haven’t had cramps or any of the more annoying aspects of being a woman for around 9 years, I’m not dealing with it very well. Actually, all I’ve done is sit on the couch and read. Perhaps a tad bit lazy but since I’m still fighting that low feeling, it simply feels like too much effort to do anything else. Is that pathetic?

Anyway, I have a couple of features from last week’s linky party:

I Quilt For Fun made this groovy scrap quilt using scraps from her own collection and some saved up from quilty friends – I’ll let you read the journey this quilt’s got ahead of it. What a cool idea!

Dorian of Ridge Top Quilts made this lovely 4 patch quilt top, adding a bit of the sublime into the centre with that bright orange/red diamond – perfect!

Linky Party Rules:

  • You can link anything you’ve created – an etsy shop, blog or tutorial, recipe or project, whatever.
  • You can leave up to 2 links
  • Please visit at least one other link and comment!
  • I’ll be featuring a few on the blog on Feature Friday
  • You are welcome to add my party button to your blog, but you don’t have to!

Feature Friday

Hello and Happy Good Friday! I’m not much of a Christian myself, but it’s nice to have Buzz home for a few days, especially after his horrendous journey home last night and the whirlwind business trip to Luxembourg this week. He’s tired, poor guy. Last night there were awful delays due to a train that had caught fire, and he was lucky to get home at 8pm. The passengers got dumped in Basingstoke without knowing whether they’d be getting a train or be shuffled onto buses, and had to hang around in the cold for quite a while, not knowing when or even how they’d get home. :s

As for me, I spent yesterday sewing everything except the stuff that’s on my to-do list. I look at the list and it’s really hard to get excited about it. I need to quilt my red & aqua QAL quilt, but I’m having a lot of trouble doing free motion quilting on my Janome Horizon 7700. The top thread keeps breaking and skipping stitches. I’ve bought the free motion bobbin holder and switched to topstitch needles, but it still happens. The end result is that when I think about needing to quilt, I get stressed out and do something else instead. Which is bloody ridiculous when you consider the machine cost me £1400. If anyone has any advice, I’d be very grateful for it.

It sounds like I’m a whingy witch, but actually I’m not, honest! I’m quite happy doing the other stuff, I just need to focus a bit on what I need to do instead of what I want to do!

Anyway, we’ve got a fantastic feature this week:

Libby of Truly Myrtle made this box bag, and even has a tutorial if you’d like to make one of your own. Isn’t it sweet?

Have a happy Easter, and come say hi on Twitter!

P.S. Because the Google Overlords want to force the entire planet into using their crappy social application, my Google Friend Connect has been cancelled. But you can still get me in your Google Reader (or any other reader) by clicking on the Feedburner (RSS) link below. :)

Feature Friday & Will You Vote For Me?

EDIT: I had forgotten about entering Mishka’s Hexagon contest – Please will you go vote for me at The Quilting Gallery? Mine is titled My Little Babies and the voting thing is down near the bottom. :) Thank you!!!

Whoa, Friday already? Damn. That means I have to have my toe done again. Yeah. Not really looking forward to it. You can keep up with my insane adventures on Twitter…come and say hi! I love meeting you guys!

Oh wow have I got a good one for you this week – adorable and complete with a link to the free tutorial.

Over at Indianna Dreams, she’s made the most adorable little folder ever, and there’s a free tutorial at Lark Crafts to make your own!

Right, I’m off to the podiatrist! Wish me bravery when he starts to numb it!

Feature Friday {And Are You Signed Up For My Giveaway?}

Wow! What a week! I’ve been fighting feeling low, and I think I’m starting to feel a tiny bit better. I think it helped that the sun came out for a couple of days. I really ought to get one of those SAD lights. Do any of you use one? If so, what do you think of it? Does it work?

Things might be kinda ‘bare bones’ around here next week. My lovely daughter Savi has a week off of school for half term, so I expect we’ll use a lot of that time to hang out together. She is such a good kid. I am SO lucky! I’m hoping we can go shopping, dye hair, bake, sew, maybe even knit together. Plus I’m getting A NEW SEWING MACHINE today! Oh yeah! I ordered a Janome Horizon from GUR sewing machines. AWESOME!! So I’ll be immersed in reading the manual for a few days.

And make sure you’re signed up for my sweet giveaway – there are {at least!} 3 prizes so get in on it now!

On, on with the features! This week’s most popular links were:

We were all intrigued about Patricia of Happy Days Quilting and her pile of rainbow charms. So pretty! Looks like she’s making a New York Beauty block! (I am too, but it’s taking forever.)

Dorian of Ridge Top Quilts has been making some truly lovely scrappy log cabin blocks – there’s very small at only 5″ but so cute! Go Dorian!

See you all Monday for another Manic Monday Linky Party!

Features, Random Crap and Revamped Binding Tutorial

Hello! Friday already? What do you all have planned for the weekend? Buzz and I have a photo shoot we desperately need good weather for. I’m a little concerned that we’re not going to get it.

I also wanted to direct you toward my quilt binding tutorial – the first set of pics featured fabric that didn’t really show up well, so I re-shot it and I think it’s vastly improved. But I’d love your opinion too.

And I’ve posted my first Swoonalong pics on Flickr – I only allow myself to work on it on Fridays and if everything else is done. So after I finish putting together the Cherish do. Good Stitches quilt top, I’m going to cut another Swoonalong block! Whee!

I had 3 big ‘winners’ this week for the most hits. Remember yesterday I said I’d be doing a tutorial for my friend Melissa’s Valentine’s celebration? Well I’m also doing a tutorial for my friend Sarah’s Learn to Sew Series. She has some FANTASTIC tutorials coming up – and I don’t just mean mine. (But mine’s good too. Really.)

FairyFace Designs

And Sarah’s been gearing up to participate in Mouthy Stitches Zippy Pouch swap, which I’m pretty sad I missed.

The next one comes from Tabatha at Bending Pins:

Isn’t this lovely? If she does a pdf of these beautiful appliques I’d pay for it! ;)

And finally Esther from Happy in Red made a cute shopping bag:

See you Monday for another edition of Manic Monday Linky Party!

Feature Friday And A Bit Of Pre-Valentine Cheer (Just A Little Bit!)

If you’re wondering what’s going on in the Sew. Happy. Quilt. QAL, go check out the Information page and the Flickr group – lots of inspiration in there!
Love (Two red hearts)

So my friend Melissa of Sew BitterSweet Designs is preparing to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a big way - from 6 Feb to 14 Feb she’ll be featuring guest posts, tutorials and all kinds of good stuff. And I’m posting a tutorial for her on the 10th, so I’m excited! And you should be excited too: she’s going to host a Valentine’s Project Linky Party, and you can link up your Valentine’s projects AND get your friends to vote for you! The one with the most votes wins a sweet prize! I can’t tell you exactly what I’m making, but I can tell you it’s quilty, and it’s small. Hmmm. No prizes for guessing correctly. :p So get your reds and pinks out and start sewing!

And while we’re talking about sewing, I’d like to introduce you to this week’s features. They were the most popular links, and I think you’ll see why:

Danny at Mommy For Reals has a mini-tute on how to make this applique tree. And I am SO rubbish at drawing that I’m super jealous of the trunk of that tree. And the paisley shapes too. Isn’t it cool?

Dana at Water Penny linked up this tutorial for a Signature Wedding Quilt - doesn’t it look sweet?

Amanda at City Girl Gone Coastal linked up a sweet tutorial on using stamps as embroidery patterns! So clever!

I’ll see you Monday for another Manic Monday Linky Party! Have a great weekend!

Feature Friday and Win $30 For Fabric! Mug Rug Challenge

Hi everyone, this is going to be short and sweet as I have a horrible cold and a tongue ulcer simultaneously and want to go eat ice cream for dinner. Tomorrow we’ll be announcing the winners of the Stashtacular massive giveaway, so make sure you check in!

And I also want to mention the Summer Mug Rug Challenge that my friend Kris Garst is hosting over on Facebook. Click here to read the rules. All you have to do is join the group, and when that’s sorted you simply add pictures of mug rugs you’ve made for the chance to win a $30 gift certificate to THE FABRIC STORE OF YOUR CHOICE!!!! Woohoo! I’ll be asking for votes next week ;)

Mary over at Craft Buds published this fantastic, easy to understand tutorial for her dress/skirt. Seriously, everything about the tute is good – informative photos, good instructions – If you’ve been hot this week and want a maxi skirt, go check this out!

Wendy from The Crafter’s Apprentice felted the solar system from a kit available on etsy – isn’t it cute?

And I’d love to give a shout out to my lovely friend Ruth over at Cherry Coloured Twist, who ordered labels from Spoonflower – They’re smaller than the ones I ordered and now I’m convinced that I too NEED smaller labels for smaller stuff (doll quilt swap, mug rug swap, etc?). Aren’t they gorgeous? Sigh. If you want to make some, read Julie Herman’s VERY useful post here, and read my post here to avoid making the mistakes I made. Seriously, read them BOTH!

Well, I’m out. Back tomorrow for the massive giveaway post – there are going to be a TON of winners!

Feature Friday!

Well, the first week of Stashtacular! is over, but we’ve got 3 awesome weeks ahead, so make sure you come back for next week’s giveaway of a jelly roll from Fat Quarter Shop and 3 more tutorials!

Sarah at Fairy Face Designs shared her Kaleidoscope blocks – don’t they look fabulous?

Suburbs Mama shared a tutorial for making this Shabby Apple inspired dress.

Cindy from Fluffy Sheep Quilting tried out some groovy arrangements for some sweet looking blocks she made.

Suzy’s Artsy Craftsy Sitcom shared a tutorial for making a sweet little quilled butterfly in a jar.

Erin from Bittle Bear shared her orange quilt – I love that the swap was named The Blockwork Orange! Ha!

The gals at Craft Buds shared a tutorial for a cute sewing machine cover – man I need to make one of these!

If you’d like a button, they’re up there on the left sidebar for you to copy and paste the html code :)

Right – I’m off to try to teach myself some new knitting stitches. And there are still 2 places left in Sew Bee Blissful if you’re interested!

Feature Friday + Would You Like a Sexy Glove?

Last night was a whopper. Miss Geek split the top of her thumb open on a knife and it seemed like forever till it stopped bleeding. I was starting to get a little frightened, but then it seemed to calm down enough for us to put a plaster (band-aid) on it.

Problem: We have one plaster in the box, one of those little ones which is only useful for tiny paper cuts. So I drove up to the shop and bought all they had. Which wasn’t much, but we got it covered up.

Next Problem: How will she take a shower? Answer: She sat on a stool in the shower and I washed her hair and helped her get clean. Something I haven’t done in aaaaages! But we had to protect her tape-and-plaster dressing, so this is what we came up with:

© Copyright, J C Excell 2011

The very latest in shower wear, so you can look like one of the Jackson clan while getting clean! If anyone would like one, they’re only £20 each and I’ll post it out to you pronto. You don’t want to miss out – what if someone saw you in the shower without your Sexy Glove? They’d be all like, ‘Oh, well, she can’t be that cool if she’s not wearing a Sexy Glove’ and you’ll be all like, ‘I promise I’ve ordered one from Jenna and it will arrive any day! I AM COOL, DAMMIT!’

Ahem. Sorry for that. On with the features!

The most popular ones this week:

You guys seemed well intrigued by Melissa from Love Affair With My Brother’s fabric organisation – I wish I had that much room to store fabric!

Regena of The Distracted Domestic made this bra bag out of bra fabric – I love meta-accessories! Please, please, can we have a tutorial Regena? You’re so good at sewing, I know it’d be awesome! Seriously guys, go check out her blog!

The always adorable Cindy at Fluffy Sheep Quilting did a post about washing batiks before sewing with them. Looking at what she’s got there confirms my suspicion that the US has way better variety than we do here.

And Suburbs Mama wrote a tutorial for an Ipad pouch – I guess I need to get an iPad before I make one. Sigh.

And Pomona of Little Cottage Comforts shared a tutorial for making a basket liner! So cute :)

Thank you so much to everyone who linked up! I’ve got to dash off to an appointment now. If you’ve been featured and you want a button:

Mini-Giveaway Winner and Feature Friday

Thank you to all 30 people who read yesterday’s post all the way through and commented to test my new commenting facilities! I’m still tweaking it, but it looks like it’s doing a fairly good job – only a couple of people got erroneously sent to the ‘spam’ folder.

The winner was Debbe from Pieces to Love, and I’ve sent her an email already. I really love my free WordPress plug-in that allows me to decide which posts are contests and how many random winners I want. At the touch of a button it does all the random work for me.

And you’ll be wanting to come back next week because the Follower Giveaway will start – I have decided to include genuine Cadbury’s chocolate and fabric in this one as those are my two favourite things.

So here are the week’s features:

Lindsey from Craft Buds shared how to sew reusable sandwich bags which look quite useful.

Karen from Sew Much 2 Luv shared a tutorial for these little zipper pouches that look like they’d make brilliant pencil cases. (Is the UK the only country that requires school kids to have pencil cases? We go through at least 2 per year.)

Felicity of Felicity Quilts made this Helen Keller quote quilt as part of the Kona Solids challenge – isn’t is lovely?!

My lovely blog friend Bonnie of Wonderfully Awkward wrote a tutorial for this wristlet with a secret zipper pocket.

And you guys have to check out Zombie Leah’s tutorial for painting with yarn – it would be a brilliant activity to do with your kids!

Suburbs Mama shared a tutorial for this easy elasticated waist knit skirt that takes way less than an hour to sew!

Well, that’s all the time I have! Gotta go write tutorials now,
