Manic Monday Linky Party

So you may have noticed I wasn’t here last week. That’s because I was reading – I averaged nearly 600 pages per day, which as you can imagine doesn’t leave much time for anything else. For some reason, when I read fiction I can’t bear to put it down. I simply MUST know what’s happening next. And it’s no good saying to myself After this chapter is over I’m going to do computer chores. I turn into Procrastination Central!

So I’m going on a fiction diet – the only fiction I’ll allow myself to buy is on audio, since I listen to that while I’m sewing. No more Kindle books for me! I need to get some real work done.

How about you? Do you have trouble doing anything else when you read a good book?

Manic Monday Linky Party

Sorry things have been so quiet around here – we’ve been pretty swamped with getting the house ready to put it on the market. And then yesterday my husband tried to clean something. I’m sure you’ve had this happen in your house – someone cleans something and the results are SO disastrous that you have to redecorate. Yeah. So we spent yesterday scrambling to get to B&Q to buy paint, then spent the rest of the day painting the bedroom ceiling. And now we have to do the walls, too, so we have to pull out all the furniture. Guess who gets to clean behind it???

So I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else has been up to, because I’m feeling rather sorry for myself that my crafting time has been so limited.

Manic Monday Linky Party! :)

I want to say thank you to everyone who commented on my post about my depression – I’ve still got a few emails left to answer, but I wanted to let you all know how grateful I am to have such good ‘virtual’ friends. You guys really lifted my spirits and helped me to see that there is a better time down the road – I just have to keep slogging along till I get there.

Also, last week we had a tie for most popular link!

Mary at Mary Emmens got this beautiful set of vintage sheet fabric in a lovely swap.

Q from JAQS Fabrics made this adorable chevron quilt – I just love the stripey binding!

Ok, and now for this week’s linky party:

Manic Monday Linky Party & Features (& Giveaway Reminder!)

Hey, if you haven’t signed up for the Abakhan fabric giveaway, get over there now!

Hello!!! Sorry for the late posting today – I got my Mirena coil out and yikes! Cramps and everything. And because I haven’t had cramps or any of the more annoying aspects of being a woman for around 9 years, I’m not dealing with it very well. Actually, all I’ve done is sit on the couch and read. Perhaps a tad bit lazy but since I’m still fighting that low feeling, it simply feels like too much effort to do anything else. Is that pathetic?

Anyway, I have a couple of features from last week’s linky party:

I Quilt For Fun made this groovy scrap quilt using scraps from her own collection and some saved up from quilty friends – I’ll let you read the journey this quilt’s got ahead of it. What a cool idea!

Dorian of Ridge Top Quilts made this lovely 4 patch quilt top, adding a bit of the sublime into the centre with that bright orange/red diamond – perfect!

Linky Party Rules:

Manic Monday Linky Party

Hi all! Just a quick note today to let you know I’m off to America tomorrow (so there’s lots of laundry and packing going on!) I’ll be blogging, but probably in a different way and not as often. I’ll probably blog a bit more about personal stuff, but I’ll also be blogging about the Sew Intertwined Quilt Along, as well as publishing the tutorials. So you won’t miss out, I promise!

Manic Monday Linky Party!

Hello! I hope you all had wonderful weekends. Saturday was Savi’s Stagecoach play, and they did a sort of singing, dancing rendition of Young Frankenstein. Hubs took some great pics, and I’m hoping to be able to post some of them this week. Savi and Hubs spent the entire weekend miserable with colds, which I’m really hoping I don’t catch. But I probably will, so I’m trying not to think too much about it. Instead I’m intent on finishing the last book of The Baroque Trilogy (which is awesome!) so that maybe I can think about getting some sewing and knitting accomplished. Wish me luck!

Manic Monday! :)

Hi all. I hope you had a lovely weekend – I hit my messed-up elbow on Saturday night and it STILL freakin’ hurts. I suspect it’ll take a few days for it to heal up properly – I totally whacked it against a fan. And just so you know, big metal floor fans don’t have any give. So don’t go bashing parts of your body into them.

Manic Monday Linky Party!

Ok, for those of you who tried & failed to get into the website in the past few days, because your browser said I was distributing malware, we’ve fixed the problem. That was a long, complicated sentence which reflects the long, complicated process we went through! But I learned a few things along the way, and if you have a blog/website too, here are a few tips:

  1. Backup regularly. Like every week or two weeks. Better safe than sorry.
  2. Get a Webmaster tool going on your blog – it’s free from Google and Google will warn you of dodgy stuff on your site as soon as it sees it.
  3. The problem isn’t going to be obvious & even when you fix it, it takes a few hours to go through the interweb – in this case, my sponsor Simply Solids had been hacked, so one of the jpgs I’d borrowed from her in a post had been hacked to contain virus information. How did we finally discover this? Webmaster tools.

Anyway, it should be all fine now. Chrome is the first browser to identify that my website is clean, so it may still take another day to filter the info out to the other browsers. But PLEASE tell me if you’re having a problem (sewhappygeek (at) gmail.com)

Manic Monday Linky Party!

Hello! Hope you had a lovely weekend! Savi comes home from America today, yay! I hope she’s not too jetlagged as she has to go to school tomorrow. She used to get it so bad I thought she had the flu. Thankfully these days it manifests itself mainly in being tired. Anyway, send good karma her way today so she feels okay tomorrow. :)

Feature Friday

Hello and Happy Good Friday! I’m not much of a Christian myself, but it’s nice to have Buzz home for a few days, especially after his horrendous journey home last night and the whirlwind business trip to Luxembourg this week. He’s tired, poor guy. Last night there were awful delays due to a train that had caught fire, and he was lucky to get home at 8pm. The passengers got dumped in Basingstoke without knowing whether they’d be getting a train or be shuffled onto buses, and had to hang around in the cold for quite a while, not knowing when or even how they’d get home. :s

As for me, I spent yesterday sewing everything except the stuff that’s on my to-do list. I look at the list and it’s really hard to get excited about it. I need to quilt my red & aqua QAL quilt, but I’m having a lot of trouble doing free motion quilting on my Janome Horizon 7700. The top thread keeps breaking and skipping stitches. I’ve bought the free motion bobbin holder and switched to topstitch needles, but it still happens. The end result is that when I think about needing to quilt, I get stressed out and do something else instead. Which is bloody ridiculous when you consider the machine cost me £1400. If anyone has any advice, I’d be very grateful for it.

It sounds like I’m a whingy witch, but actually I’m not, honest! I’m quite happy doing the other stuff, I just need to focus a bit on what I need to do instead of what I want to do!

Anyway, we’ve got a fantastic feature this week:

Libby of Truly Myrtle made this box bag, and even has a tutorial if you’d like to make one of your own. Isn’t it sweet?

Have a happy Easter, and come say hi on Twitter!
