Ok, first I have to tell you about this SUPER cool competition from The Sewing Directory:
The Sewing Directory have teamed up with Abakhan Fabrics, Hobby & Home to bring you The Dress Factor! They are looking for people to submit their designs for a summer inspired garment, bag or accessory using fabrics from the Abakhan website.
Five of the designers will be chosen to make up their designs with free fabrics from the Abakhan fabrics website. The winner will get a brilliant Janome Memory Craft 5900QC (RRP. £799) and the 4 runners up each get a £50 Abakhan Fabrics voucher.
All you have to do is follow a few simple guidelines and send your design in – you don’t even have to make it! Well, not until you’re chosen as one of the five. All the information is available on The Sewing Directory website – so go check it out!
I also wanted to mention a split complementary swap I’ve joined on Sew Sane Jane – it’s a 5″ x 10″ charm swap, where you buy one yard each of red-orange, green and blue and get back a whole big bunch of them. It’s based in the States but is open internationally. It will make a lovely, happy quilt. I’m probably going to just sew mine together and let the fabric shine. I think there are about 10 places left, so if you want to join, leave a comment on the post and Becky will help sort you out!
And last but definitely not least, if you missed the Sewing Summit Advice post on Katy’s blog, you should go read it now. Danny from Mommy For Reals answers a nervous participant’s questions about American food. It’s bloody hilarious.
P.S. Because the Google Overlords want to force the entire planet into using their crappy social application, my Google Friend Connect has been cancelled. But you can still get me in your Google Reader (or any other reader) by clicking on the Feedburner (RSS) link below.

Hello! Did you notice I didn’t blog yesterday? I bet not! I had a foot appointment and was hanging out with a special friend who’s been having a tough time lately. So I didn’t get time. The foot appointment went well, considering what it looked like a few weeks ago, but I’ve also been referred on to the specialist for having plantar fasciitis in BOTH feet. It’s SUPER painful and I’m going to have to 1) wear trainers or other good shoes that are ugly and 2) rearrange my sewing studio so I can do most things sitting down. ****If you have any advice about brands of shoes I should be looking at for plantar fasciitis relief, PLEASE leave a comment or email me: firstname.lastname@example.org!****
On to the show! As you probably know, Fat Quarter Shop is my premium sponsor. Their team has to be some of the nicest quilty people on the earth. They’re a dream to deal with, and when you order from them, you know you’re going to get exceptional service. But let me share what’s new:
And I just had to share this Timeless Treasures book fabric with you – $10.50 per yard. (Have I mentioned I have over 200 biographies of Elizabeth I alone? Yeah, I’m a book addict too.)
I’m also a little in love with this Hopscotch quilt pattern by Bonnie and Camille. I’m thinking about making my baby niece’s quilt using this pattern… Only $8 and instant download!
Or maybe you’re like me and have a thing for layer cakes? This brand new Papillon by 3 sisters is so pretty! $39!
And as for the giveaway, Fat Quarter Shop has generously offered to give away 3 charm packs of Scoot by Riley Blake:
Isn’t it cute? So there will be 3 WINNERS! yay!
So there are 3 ways to win:
- Be a follower of SewHappyGeek and leave me a comment telling me
- Be a follower of Fat Quarter Shop’s blog, the Jolly Jabber and leave me a comment telling me
- Follow SewHappyGeek on Twitter OR Facebook (or both! LOL) and leave me a comment telling me
I’ll leave the giveaway running for a week, and draw next Thursday morning, 2 Feb 2012. I’ll be using my usual And The Winner Is… plug in.
P.S. Because I write a non-Blogger blog, I am one of those unfortunates who will lose my Google Friend Connect widget soon. I really value you as a reader and follower, and I’d like to ask you to consider following me on BlogLovin’, a free service built specifically for people to follow their favourite blogs, or by Feedburner, which is an RSS feed. Thanks!!

I am very proud to announce that I have a new sponsor, Skye Reve Fabrics. Natasha is a lovely woman, very busy and very enthusiastic about fabric (so she has a lot in common with the rest of us, eh?)
She has some really beautiful fabrics bundles for sale, some of which are very new and hard to find elsewhere:
Like this 1/2 yard bundle from the Pam Kitty Morning line of designer fabrics from Lakehouse fabrics. It’s only $35! What a steal!
I should also mention here that she will sell any of her fabrics as Fat Quarters; all you have to do is contact her – so if you don’t need 1/2 yards of everything, Natasha will happily accommodate you.
She’s also got a bundle of Foliage Pocket Full Of Posies for only $27 – I’m seriously tempted to order it myself. It’d make a lovely handbag
And she’s got some other really yummy fabrics listed as well:
And if you’re planning to make something for that special funky, sassy lass in your life (My 13 year old Savi comes to mind…) this brilliant hello kitty fabric will make a fabulous tote bag or cosmetic bag! Only $8.50 per yard!
And how about this delicious Michael Miller Red Eiffel Towers fabric for only $8.25 per yard? I’m thinking this would make a fabulous hostess apron.
Thank you so much Natasha!
