Hey there! I’m Miranda from the Craft Bot! I’m so excited to be doing my part while Jenna is recovering from surgery. I started my blog a few years ago and I really enjoy it. I post about all kinds of things over there, sewing, knitting, crocheting, my garden, baking, and all the wild life around my house. Now that all the formal details are out of the way let’s get to the fun stuff!  A few months ago I won a beautiful jelly roll from The Fat Quarter Shop and Jenna. I picked out Terrain by Kate Spain.

It is such beautiful fabric that I couldn’t imagine making anything else but a quilt.I had a hard time deciding what to do with it, there are so many great ideas out there!  Finally, I decided to make a coin quilt. I didn’t even know what a coin quilt was until about 3 weeks ago. I haven’t made many quilts. Only 2 bed sized quilts made with squares and then one small strips quilt (for the cat).
I wanted to make this one the “right way”. I set all my seams, ironed like mad and even used a 1/4 inch foot.

I didn’t use a specific pattern or tutorial to make this quilt. I just Googled “coin quilt” and looked at the pictures.  I just sewed the strips together in groups of 5, 4, 3, and 2. And then I mixed and matched them. I did end up taking some of them apart and re-sewing to get more randomness. So my advice would be to sew them in small groups to give more flexibility. Then I cut them and spend oodles of time arranging them and then sewed the coins together. Then I sewed the grey strips in between and on the top and bottom. Sounds easy right? It was pretty easy, but it was a lot of sewing. I used a whole spool of thread, just sewing the top! So here she is!
