Simply Solids Giveaway Winners, Features & A Fruitful Trip To Bath

The Simply Solids giveaway is closed – Congratulations to Sarah of FairyFace Designs and Debra L! I’ve emailed the winners to get details. There’s still time to get in on the Blog Hop Giveaway and the Sew, Mama, Sew Giveaway Day! And you should go read about my upcoming QAL – there are some fantastic prizes to be won.

Hey, did you even notice I took another day off yesterday? I bet you didn’t! LOL That’s ok, I would never hold being busy up to your eyeballs against you. 🙂 Anyhoo, Savi had the day off of school because all the teachers were talking to the kids one-on-one about their grades. So we went to that appointment at 9am, then rushed around a bit (as Savi forgot her phone, and a coat…) and got to Romsey train station in time to catch the 10:21 to Bath Spa. Now, I know many of my readers are North American (as am I, originally) so you might not know much about Bath besides that it holds the old Roman Baths which have been excavated. They’re really cool – you can wander round them for the right price. (p.s. everything costs more in the UK – they charge you to park EVERYWHERE except large grocery stores. Even hospitals. ???)

But Bath is also full of really lovely shops, and in a tucked away alley, there’s a quilting shop, Country Threads, and about 10 steps away, there’s a luxury yarn shop, Wool. We were in heaven! In the interests of being honest about my fabric and yarn addictions, I’ve provided a photo as evidence of my RESTRAINT. Get it? I RESTRAINED myself and that’s what ALL of you are going to tell my husband when he sees the bill. Please?

Now, at least 4 of those balls of yarn are actually Xmas pressies for Savi. So really I only bought like 6, which isn’t bad. And see the fingerless gloves at the front of the pic?

I made them using the Maloja pattern available on Ravelry for $1.99. They’re wonderful and I seriously recommend the pattern – they were quick, stretchy and warm!

So the only down side of the trip was that we had to stand for 1/2 hour on a packed train before we finally got seats. The train company routinely runs a train with only 3 carraiges, which is total BS as it’s always packed to the bloody ceilings and I personally think if you pay £20 for a ticket, you ought to have a seat.

And on to the Features:

Lots of you really liked this Mug Rug from Quilting by the River – and there’s a tutorial for a centerpiece too!

And my good pal Ruth blogged about this little beauty – it’s her Table Runner from the SewHappyGeek Table Runner Swap! Isn’t it beautiful!?

Oh my, look how I’ve gone on and on about my trip yesterday. Sorry! See you tomorrow for more winners!
P.S. Because I write a non-Blogger blog, I am one of those unfortunates who will lose my Google Friend Connect widget soon. I really value you as a reader and follower, and I’d like to ask you to consider following me on BlogLovin’, a free service built specifically for people to follow their favourite blogs, or by Feedburner, which is an RSS feed. Thanks!! 🙂

  1. Thanks for the mention – you are a gem. At the mo I seem to be spending too much time on Twitter and not enough on my blog or other people’s – got a lot of catching up to do!

  2. *Idly wonder if she can intercept that parcel on its way to Cork and if Sarah would notioce*

Anywho, yes, I can see you were TERRIBLY restrained in your purchases, I mean, you only bought the essentials, right? 😉 And if it makes you feel any better, I get packed (standing) on a train with a bunch of stinky schoolboys, overly-perfumed women and awful music blaring blokes on the way to and from work…

Love your features, both very colourful 🙂

  3. Hi Jenna – just wanted to say thank you for all my fabulours scraps that I received today: there are loads! Thank you so much
I love Bath, have been there a few times – now I know where to look for those little quilting shops. Love your stash there!
