Hey guys, what are you all up to? Over the weekend, we had some decent weather and took advantage of it by using our memberships to Hillier Gardens Arboretum. Every year they have an ‘Art in the Garden’ celebration where artists put their sculptures all around the gardens and try to sell them.
Every year we get a big laugh out of how expensive they all are, so I thought I’d share it with you. For some reason I can’t find the paper with everything listed, so I’m doing it from memory. Some of them I have totally forgotten but they’re pretty cool so I thought I’d share anyway. 🙂
Isn’t this cool? I think it was somewhere in the region of £500.
Is it just me or does that look like a pair of underwear?
These were £500 per piece – they literally are pieces of wood with plastic rings around them:

Not sure how much he was, but he sure does look cool.

Sorry. I know that’s not art in the garden, but I’m pretty proud of this picture!

This was the most expensive piece in the whole exhibition – £18,000!
This was around £18,000 as well.
What I have concluded from these art shows is that I am in the wrong business. I should be making huge things that look like cabbage and selling them for £18,000, or wrapping plastic bands around a piece of wood and selling it for £500. And that’s what you all should be doing as well, clearly.

Such great photos! I love the bird sculptures. So smooth and angular, yet still detailed. That artist has a real style, and it definitely works. LOVE the bee photo! But then again, I’m a bit partial to bees. 😉 Sounds like you guys had a fun day!
I burst out laughing when I saw the “underwear” sculpture – I thought the same thing even before I read your description!

Yes the second picture does look like underwear I thought that before I saw your caption. The sticks with the plastic bands around them don’t even look cool to me, but it makes me wonder what some people think when they see a price tag of $150 on a crib sized quilt. Especially if they know nothing about quilting and the time and expense that goes into it.
